The Feast of the Ravens
by Suzie Lockhart

He’ll be sorry…
I feel the darkness rising within me.
The sky reacts to my rage; angry storm clouds of crimson and ochre swirl overhead.
Animals scurry away as they sense my fury brewing.
Except for the ravens.
The ebony fowl multiply, readying for the kill.
Awaiting my command.
And as soon as he steps out, frozen in awe at the sight before him, I raise my hands high above my head.
The sleeves of my black dress pool around my shoulders, then fling forward as I give the command.
The ravens dive and encircle my one and only love.
The devour his flesh; they pick at his entrails.
Savoring the sight, I listen to the sound of frenzied feasting.
I am not sorry.
Nevermore.
